5 Favorite Inspirational Movie Scenes

by Sean Mathena

I love going to the movies, the whole experience;  the popcorn, the seats, and just getting lost in another world for a couple hours.  So I thought I would pull out some of my favorite inspirational movie scenes.

The Pursuit of Happyness

This is the true story of a man who is homeless and raising a child on his own.  One day he sees a man get out of a nice car and he asks him what he does for a living.  He says he is a stockbroker, and so the man played by Will Smith makes it his goal to become one.  This is a pretty special movie because the boy in the movie is actually Will Smith’s son.

Rocky V

While I think the first Rocky was better, I think this scene has to be the most inspirational!

Any Given Sunday

This movie is one of my all time favorite football movies.  Al Pacino’s speech at halftime is an awesome example of a motivational halftime speech.  There are a few profanities, so make sure you know who is around!

Wall Street

This is one of my favorite movies of all time.  Michael Douglas does an awesome job as the great Gordon Gekko.  This might be a controversial speech from a motivation standpoint, but it is still one of my favorites.

The Wizard of Oz

Absolutely my favorite movie of all time!  There are many lessons to be learned from this movie, but it is really summed up in the last scene where Dorothy has returned from Oz.  Unfortunately I was unable to find a copy of this scene that I was able to embed, but you can get straight to is by clicking here.

I am sure there are many I missed.  I would love to hear what some of your favorites are, so leave them in the comments!

I love motivation clips. Like The Gecko speech on of my favorites actually has a lot of negativity to it also. It has so many funny lines I could likely do a post just on that clip.

“What’s your name? F U …That’s my name”

ABC A = Always B = Be C = Closing

Alec Baldwin in Glen Garry Glen Ross… Good Stuff

Funny stuff and whenever I think of sales…actually quite inspirational

Yep, I love the Glen Garry Glen Ross movie. I think that scene should be required watching for salespeople! Boiler Room is another great one in the same genre. I can’t wait until Friday when Wall Street 2 comes out.

I too love the Gecko speech – it hits you in the gut but gets you on so many different levels.

I’m gonna go the young route and mention Boiler Room which draws inspiration from Wall Street. It opens with a killer line…

The narrator mentions Biggie Smalls, something like this…

“Biggie Smalls once said either you’re slinging crack rock or you’ve got a wicket jump shot…I did the white guy’s game of selling crack…I became a stock broker”.

Pow – it just hits :D

Thanks for the comment!

I agree, Boiler Room is a classic. I also like Ben Afflecks speech to the new recruits. “Anyone who tells you that money doesn’t make you happy doesn’t have any. Look at the smile on my face, ear to ear baby!”

Very cool pics on your site by the way!

Hi Sean, thanks for sharing those movie clips. They are exactly what I need right now. I need motivation, inspiration, guidance. (By the way, I only managed to watch 2, the other 2 are disable.) I like that clip from The Pursuit of Happyness, “Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do something. Not even me” and the rest of it.

Thanks for the comment Anne! Yes, these are some of my favorites, I am glad to know I could help out a bit! I will try to fix the ones that aren’t working.

Great list Sean. They ‘ve inspired me too, especially the The Pursuit of Happyness. I am generally inspired by movies which show someone struggling for a cause and finally succeeding. I saw recently the Defiance, touching.

Hey Sean,
Nice list.I like the Rocky one.But my personal favorite is the Al Pacino’s speech at the end of the Scent of a Woman. That man simply rocks.
